We are excited to present our first natural Nicaraguan offering, produced by the Peralta Family in Northern Nicaragua. Their coffee growing history goes back to the early 20th century but it wasn’t until 2008 that the family began developing new ways to market their coffees to the international specialty market. They also provide financing, milling, quality control, export and consulting services to other small and medium farms and cooperatives from different regions of Nicaragua. Currently, all of their production is exported and sold to the specialty markets around the world.
Cerro de Jesus is one of seven farms owned by the Peraltas, all of which are located in the Dipilto and Jalapa Mountain Range which borders Honduras. Nicaragua doesn’t possess the high altitudes that its neighboring Central American countries have, however the unique micro-climates of Northern Nicaragua and the Jalapa Mountain Range have been key components to the production of high quality coffees. Only about 10% of Nicaraguan coffee comes from the Jalapa Mountain Range and the Nueva Segovia department, with the majority of national production coming from Jinotega and Matagalpa. The profile that emerges from this particular zone consists of a juicy and complex acidity, sweet floral notes, tropical fruit, and caramel throughout.
